Listen to Radio 4 Brainport on Your Phone Like an App

Do you want to start our streams directly from your phone’s home screen, just like separate apps? You can! On both Android and iPhone it only takes a few steps. This page explains how.

1. Which streams can you use?

On the front page of radio4brainport.org you’ll find two main streams:

  • High bitrate MP3 – higher sound quality, uses a bit more data
  • Low bitrate AAC – more data-efficient, ideal for mobile listening

You can create a separate icon for each stream on your home screen if you like.

2. Android: add a shortcut to your Home Screen

2.1 Using Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome on your Android phone.
  2. Go to www.radio4brainport.org
  3. Tap the stream you want to use as your “app”
    • for example: High bitrate MP3 or Low bitrate AAC.
  4. Tap the three dots (menu) in the top-right corner.
  5. Choose “Add to Home screen”.
  6. Optionally change the name to something clear, like:
    • Radio 4 Brainport – MP3
    • Radio 4 Brainport – AAC (mobile)
  7. Tap Add, and confirm Add again if Android asks.

You’ll now see an icon on your Home Screen, just like an app.
Tap it, and your browser will open directly on that stream page so you can start listening immediately.

2.2 Other Android browsers

Most other browsers work in a similar way:

  • Samsung Internet: menu (three lines) → “Add page to”“Home screen”
  • Firefox: menu (three dots) → “Add to Home screen”

If you see an option like “Install app” or “Install”:

  • You can use that as well; it will behave even more like a standalone app.
  • If that option is not available, use “Add to Home screen” instead.

3. iPhone / iPad (iOS): “Add to Home Screen”

On iOS you need to use Safari for this. Only Safari offers “Add to Home Screen”.

  1. Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to www.radio4brainport.org
  3. Tap the stream you want as an icon (High bitrate MP3 or Low bitrate AAC).
  4. Tap the Share icon at the bottom (square with an arrow up).
  5. Scroll down and choose “Add to Home Screen”.
  6. Enter a name, for example:
    • Radio 4 Brainport
    • or R4B AAC (mobile)
  7. Tap Add.

You’ll now see an app-like icon on your Home Screen. When you tap it, Safari opens directly on that stream page.

4. Tips

  • Multiple icons
You can create one icon for MP3 and another for AAC. Just repeat the steps for each stream.
  • Data usage
    • Use Low bitrate AAC if you’re often on mobile data or have a limited plan.
    • Use High bitrate MP3 if you’re mostly on Wi-Fi and want maximum quality.
  • Renaming icons later
    • Android: long-press the icon → Edit (if your launcher supports it) → change the name.
    • iOS: delete the icon and create it again with a new name.

5. Trouble getting it to work?

Check the following:

  • You’re using a modern browser (Chrome/Firefox/Samsung Internet on Android, Safari on iOS).
  • You opened the front page or stream page of radio4brainport.org before adding it.
  • Your phone or work profile isn’t blocking the creation of Home Screen shortcuts.

You can now listen to Radio 4 Brainport with a single tap from your home screen—just like an app.
